The Heart of Jesus

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord's favor has come." Luke 4: 18-19
Speaking for myself as well, I think as Christians we often read this passage sort of passively. We acknowledge it's truth for Jesus life, and then we move on. As I was reading this today it struck me in a new way. This should be the desire of our hearts as disciples of Jesus. A disciple is ultimately someone who did what they saw Jesus doing. If that is true, we are called to do the same! Jesus heart was with the poor, the brokenhearted, the captives, the prisoners, and those who mourn.
I believe we need to pray for humble hearts to want to serve others who may seem lower than us. For the willingness to give up our own plans and desires to give our time and resources to others. To be good listeners, and ask the Holy Spirit to show us the true hearts of those around us and what he has to say to them.
Anyways, just some thoughts on this Sunday afternoon. May we all be willing to spur one another on as we follow Jesus!
