I personally think Jesus did some of his best work in homes. It was in a home where he loved his friends intimately, where he welcomed the "sinners" and outcasts. I can only imagine how loved they felt, sharing a table with Jesus.
This is probably my favorite part about the way we are choosing to church plant. We will meet in homes, of ours and others, across the St. Louis area.
I have learned a few things after hosting house fellowships in my home for 3 years, and being married to someone who loves to have people over for 7 years. The home itself doesn't really matter. It doesn't need to be perfect for hosting, or beautifully decorated. You don't even need to be a great cook. It is the heart of the home that matters. I think people can feel love and acceptance when they walk through a front door, and it is my prayer that that can be our home now and in the future. And I get excited about the way we are going to be able to connect with people who would never walk into a church building, but would be willing to join us for dinner or coffee.
Please be praying with us as we search for God's home for us in St. Louis. We know he has a place in mind for his ministry, and we will have a story to tell!
